Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - St. James's Hospital, Dublin.

392.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of any plans to demolish hospital 3 in the St. James's Hospital complex, Dublin; if so, the plans there are for the geriatric patients as this is the only hospital to cater solely for them; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As part of the redevelopment of St. James's Hospital, it will be necessary to demolish Hospital 3 in the St. James's Hospital complex. A working party involving representatives of St. James's Hospital, Eastern Health Board and the Department of Health is currently preparing a planning brief for geriatric services in the new hospital. This working party is also dealing with the question of the decanting of Hospital 3 which involves the making of alternative arrangements for the care of geriatric patients at present accommodated there. These arrangements have yet to be finalised.
