Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - Limerick Telephonist Vacancy.

369.

asked the Minister for Finance when the second vacancy for a blind telephonist in the Office of the Inland Revenue in Limerick will be filled.

Two posts for blind telephonist were originally authorised for the Limerick Tax Office. Following the Government decision on staffing levels in July 1981 a number of blind telephonist posts were affected including a post at the Dundalk tax office. In order to provide a telephonist service in Dundalk one of the Limerick posts was redeployed to Dundalk. The occupant of the post had in fact applied for a transfer to Dundalk.

The present complement for blind telephonists in Revenue is ten and there are 15 serving. The excess arose because, at the time of the Government decision to freeze staffing levels, recruitment procedures for a number of blind telephonists were so far advanced that they were taken on. The excess is being reduced as vacancies arise.
