Vol. 346 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kerry Water Scheme.

317.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the proposed Scartaglen regional water supply scheme, County Kerry; if he is aware of the shortage of water in this area; the approximate date by which work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Approval issued to Kerry County Council on 20 July 1983 in respect of the preliminary report for the Firies/Scartaglen Regional Water Supply Scheme. It is now a matter for the council to prepare and submit contract documents for the scheme to my Department for examination and approval. I cannot say, at this stage, when work on the regional scheme will commence.

I am aware that some water shortages were experienced in this area during the summer but I understand from Kerry County Council that this situation was relieved by connecting the existing Firies Water Scheme to a local group scheme.
