Vol. 346 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Juvenile Liaison Officers.

467.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of juvenile liaison officers attached to Blackrock, Dundrum, Rathfarnham and Stillorgan Garda stations, Dublin.

468.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take appropriate steps to increase the number of juvenile liaison officers attached to Dundrum, Rathfarnham and Tallaght Garda stations, Dublin.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 467 and 468 together.

The allocation of manpower to specialised units like the Juvenile Liaison Section is a matter for decision by the Garda authorities in the light of their assessment of needs and having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services.

I am informed that there is one juvenile liaison officer assigned to Blackrock Garda station with responsibility for the Blackrock, Stillorgan and Dundrum areas and two juvenile liaison officers assigned to Rathfarnham and Tallaght areas. The Garda authorities report that there is no proposal at present to increase these numbers but that the matter is being kept under review.
