Vol. 346 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

415.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a final notice was sent to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin as he had paid his account some weeks previously.

A final notice was issued in the normal way because there was no record of the account having been paid. A cheque which the subscriber said he had forwarded had not reached the Department.

416.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin.

I very much regret that it has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of the volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the Dublin area.

Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary cabling will be completed before the middle of next year.

It was expected that service would be provided earlier. Unfortunately it was not possible to do so because of the need to divert staff to other urgent work.

417.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be repaired for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin as it has been out of order since August 1982; and the reason for the delay in repairing the service.

I regret the subscriber's service was affected by an intermittent fault between August 1982 and February 1983. A subsequent fault was cleared in October last. Arrangements are being made to have the subscriber's line and apparatus specially checked.

418.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin as his telephone has been out of order for some time; and if a rebate will be granted.

The subscriber's line has been checked and there is no evidence of a fault on the line. In the circumstances a rebate of rental is not warranted. The Dún Laoghaire telephone exchange to which the subscriber is connected does experience congestion at times during peak traffic periods which may have given rise to the subscriber's complaint. It is planned to replace the existing exchange with a new exchange about the end of 1984.

In the interim every effort is being made to provide as good a standard of maintenance as possible on the existing exchange.

419.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 as she applied several years ago, is an old age pensioner, lives alone, and is in bad health.

I very much regret the delay in providing telephone service for the person named. However, it will not be possible to meet this application until necessary additional engineering work is carried out.

The objective of the Department's current telephone development programme is to provide a fully satisfactory telephone service nationally in terms of both quality and availability by the end of 1984 and it is expected that service will be provided for the person named about the middle of next year.

420.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is satisfied that the telephone account of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick is correct; if he has received a query from the subscriber; when investigations will be completed; and if he will ensure that the telephone is not disconnected pending the outcome.

This subscriber's telephone account has been rechecked and found to be correct. Replies have been sent to her queries. Service was not disconnected pending completion of inquiries but this will now have to be pursued unless the outstanding accounts are paid promptly.

421.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin as she is eighty-three years of age and lives alone.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the existing coinboxes in Lusk Village and Orlynn Park, County Dublin, will be replaced by payphones.

All coinbox telephones in public kiosks in Lusk, including the one at Orlynn Park, have been converted to payphone operation.

423.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be repaired for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 as it has been out of order for two months.

Service has been restored. A rebate for the period of the outage is being arranged.

424.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 as he paid the required fees in July 1983 and was informed that it would be installed within twelve weeks.

I very much regret the delay in providing telephone service for the person named.

When she was invited to sign an agreement and make advance payment it was expected that service would be provided within three months. Unfortunately, the cable serving her premises was found to be faulty at the installation stage.

It is expected that service will be provided within the next few weeks.
