A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil, (1) that, having informed the President that Dáil Éireann had approved my nomination of Deputy Ruairí Quinn to be a member of the Government, the President today appointed him accordingly; and (2) that I today (a) terminated the assignment of the Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism to myself and assigned that Department to John Bruton, (b) terminated the assignment of the Department of Industry and Energy to John Bruton and assigned that Department to Dick Spring, (c) terminated the assignment of the Department of the Environment to Dick Spring and assigned that Department to Liam Kavanagh and (d) terminated the assignment of the Department of Labour to Liam Kavanagh and assigned that Department to Ruairí Quinn.
