asked the Minister for Agriculture the steps he proposes to take following the increase of the incidence of TB in cattle herds in an area in north and north-west Monaghan.

The TB breakdown in the Selloo, Scotstown and Smithboro area to which, I believe, the Deputy is referring is being tackled by intensification of normal eradication measures and, in particular, by special attention to herds contiguous to those where reactors have been disclosed. I have also arranged for an increase in the number of veterinarians working from the local district veterinary office.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is envisaged to have a full round of testing for bovine tuberculosis in 1984.

All aspects of the bovine tuberculosis eradication scheme are being reviewed at present. Strategy for 1984, including the testing programme, will be determined in the light of that review.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is proposed to suspend the testing of calves over six weeks; and, if so, if this will lead to a spread of tuberculosis in cattle.

I have no proposals for dispensing with the testing for disease eradication purposes of calves over six weeks of age.
