Vol. 347 No. 3

Written Answers. - Maigue Drainage Scheme.

265.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the cutback in the Government's allocation to the Office of Public Works will mean the loss of 52 jobs on the Maigue drainage scheme; and the action he intends to take to avert job losses.

It is expected that 59 workers on the Maigue catchment drainage scheme will be laid off this year by the Commissioners of Public Works. Because of the need to restrict expenditure in the public sector and to ensure that the financial allocation for arterial drainage in 1984 is not exceeded, the proposed redundancies at the Maigue scheme, which is approaching completion, cannot be averted.
