Vol. 347 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Purchases by Creameries.

385.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the steps he is taking to prevent the purchase of milk at a flat price without it being tested.

I have seen reports that some creameries may be offering to buy milk on a flat basis and my Department have drawn the attention of those concerned to the provisions of the Milk and Cream (Calculation of Price) Order, 1928, which lays down that milk bought by creameries must be paid for on the basis of its butter fat content.

I am not entirely satisfied, however, that this law is appropriate in present day circumstances and I am, accordingly, having it examined to see whether it needs to be amended or revoked.
