Vol. 347 No. 10

Written Answers. - Policy on Itinerants.

298.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the Government are formulating a policy in relation to itinerants; if he is aware of the grave problems that exist at present in certain areas of County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The report of the Government Review Body, composed of six Minister of State, is expected shortly. My principal function with regard to travellers is the provision of assistance to local authorities towards the development of their accommodation programmes. I am aware of the problems existing at present in certain areas of County Dublin and the Minister of State at my Department is meeting the Dublin City and County Manager and local authority senior officers this week to discuss the matter.
