Vol. 348 No. 2

Written Answers. - Monaghan Primary Road Allocation.

379.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of a letter from his Department dated 13 January 1984, to the secretary of Monaghan County Council regarding the Monaghan draft development plan 1983; and if he will confirm that it is his intention to allocate no money to the council for work on the national primary road because they adopted the development plan.

I am aware of the letter referred to by the Deputy. I understand that Monaghan County Council have not yet completed a review of their current development plan.

The allocation of State grants to meet the full cost of work on national primary works is dependent generally on the extent to which the scheme of work meets the policy aims set out in the Road Development Plan for the 1980s. The allocation also takes into account the extent to which development alongside, or with access to, national primary roads in an area complies with the advice and guidelines relating to development control functions which were circulated by my Department on 26 October 1982. Subject to these considerations, grants will continue to be allocated to Monaghan County Council for work on the national primary road in the county.
