Vol. 348 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mayo River Flow.

381.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that suggestions have been made that the "7th box" on the River Moy in Ballina is illegal in that the floor of the box is lower than the bed of the river; and of suggestions that the flow of water through the "free pass" has been interfered with by excavations which tend to take the flow of water away from the "free pass"; and if he will make a statement on the matter setting out the steps, if any, he will take to rectify the matter.

I am aware of the concern of local anglers about box No. 7 and excavations at the Moy fishery salmon weir in Ballina. I have arranged for an engineering survey at the weir to be completed as soon as possible to ascertain the position and I shall consider the matter further when the result of the survey is known.
