asked the Minister for Health the special guidelines which will apply in the case of elderly persons applying for medical cards from 1 July 1984; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As from 1 July 1984 a special age allowance will be built into the medical card guidelines. This special allowance will be £5 per week for a single person aged 66 to 79 years and £8 per week for a single person aged 80 years or over. The corresponding weekly age allowance for a married couple will be £10 and £16 respectively.
