Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Deserted Wives.

594.

asked the Minister for Health if a deserted wife is classed as a single parent for the computation of free health services in the same way as an unmarried parent.

Full eligibility for health services is determined in any individual case by the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board and account is taken of all relevant circumstances in that case. In general, deserted wives are treated similarly to single parents. Both deserted wives and single parents who have child dependants are treated the same as married couples. Without child dependants, they are treated as single persons.
