Vol. 350 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

529.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons a full tax refund has not been made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the reason due account has not been taken of the total amount of tax paid; if he will now direct his Department to pay the balance of the refund due; the total amount to be paid; the date on which it will be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that a review of the taxpayer's liability for 1983-84 has disclosed that, when account is taken of a repayment made to him in the course of that year, the tax paid under PAYE is insufficient to meet his liability. Full details of the review were furnished to the taxpayer by the inspector on 9 April 1984. The amount underpaid will be recovered from the taxpayer by an appropriate restriction of his tax free allowances under PAYE when he resumes employment.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer only recently provided the information needed by the inspector to enable him to undertake a final review of the taxpayer's position for 1982-83. This review disclosed an entitlement to a refund of tax and a cheque in settlement will reach the taxpayer shortly.
