Vol. 350 No. 1

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

567.

asked the Minister for Health when sanction will be granted for a fixed appliance for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Fixed appliance orthodontic treatment is normally provided by dentists in private practice on behalf of the health boards. Since July 1981 the Department has been endeavouring to get agreement with the private orthodontists on a scale of charges for this expensive treatment and pending the conclusion of such an agreement the issue of authorisations to proceed with treatments was suspended. Discussions are continuing between the Department and the private orthodontists and I am hoping for an early settlement of the issue so that treatments can again be proceeded with.
