Vol. 350 No. 3

Written Answers. - Oranmore (Galway) Sewerage Scheme.

527.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if a communication from the Department of Transport in June 1983 in connection with an application from Galway County Council for permission to lay a sewerage outfall pipe on the foreshore at Renvyle west in connection with the proposed Oranmore sewerage scheme was the first occasion on which his Department were asked to express an opinion or interest in this scheme; and if he will give details of any other contacts made by Galway County Council or their consulting engineers or An Foras Forbartha since 1977.

In May 1983 my Department was first put on notice of the Oranmore Sewerage Scheme at a meeting with the consulting engineers to Galway County Council. On that occasion my officials advised that Galway County Council apply to the then Department of Transport for a foreshore licence in connection with the scheme.

Subsequent to June 1983 officials of my Department attended meetings with officials from Galway County Council on two occasions to discuss the proposed sewerage scheme. The first of these meetings, at which representatives from An Foras Forbartha and the consulting engineers were also present, was held on 24 October 1983; the second, on 2 March 1984, was attended by officials of Galway County Council and the consulting engineers.
