Vol. 350 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

528.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes there is no refund of tax due in this case. Reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the five years 1978-79 to 1982-83, which were recently carried out, showed that insufficient tax had been paid for those years. The tax underpaid, details of which have been supplied to the taxpayer, will be collected by restricting his tax-free allowances under PAYE.

529.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the issue of a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and when this rebate will now be issued.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that on 12 March 1984, the inspector of taxes wrote to the agents acting on behalf of the taxpayer for certain information which is required to enable reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the years 1980-81 to 1982-83 to be carried out. As no response has been received from the agent, the inspector is unable to make further progress in the case.
