Vol. 350 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Clare Housing Grant.

524.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the proposals to reduce the floor area of a house (details supplied) in Kilrush in County Clare are not acceptable; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The application in this case was rejected as the floor area of the house exceeds the maximum area allowable for grant purposes of 125 sq. m. (1346 sq. ft.). The floor area of a house is measured within the external walls and includes all areas with the exception of undeveloped attics, garages and basements. In this case, an area described as workshop must be included in the floor area calculation. The applicant's proposal to close off one doorway and open another is not acceptable because the area in question is still part of the house.
