Vol. 350 No. 9

Written Answers. - Electricity Supply Application.

500.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will approve the application, of a person (details supplied) in Beaufort, County Kerry, for an EEC grant for a supply of electricity for his proposed new farm dwelling house under the western electrification package.

An application for aid under the western package electrification scheme towards the cost of installation of electricity supply to a new house from the person referred to by the Deputy was turned down by my Department on 8 April 1984 on the grounds that the house for which supply was sought was not owned by him but by his son. It is of course open to the son to make application on his own behalf for grant aid under the scheme, if he believes himself to be eligible. The regulation which governs the scheme (EEC 1820/80) requires that an applicant must be principally dependent on agriculture for his income. Explanatory leaflets on the scheme are available at ESB offices in the areas covered by the scheme.
