Vol. 351 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin VEC Teaching Staff Allocation.

620.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the anxiety, concern and frustration being experienced by the principals and the staff of the VEC administered schools and colleges in Dublin in anticipation of the situation which prevails at the commencement of the new school year arising from the serious cutbacks which have occurred; and whether in view of the very special demands on that system and of her expressed intention of discrimination in favour of meritorious cases she will revise her plans for the students in question.

My Department notified the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee on 18 April last of its provisional 1984-85 teaching staff allocation for day courses. While the allocation showed a substantial increase over the current year's staffing, the committee has indicated that it still may not be adequate for its requirements. The provisional allocation was made on the basis of information supplied by the committee in February last. My Department is awaiting receipt of additional and more up-to-date information so as to enable it to review the situation.
