Vol. 351 No. 7

Written Answers. - Computer Information.

406.

asked the Minister for Education the number of citizens about whom information is retained on computer in her Department; and if information so recorded is used by her Department for any other purpose.

Information as envisaged in the question is not involved in the case of the data required for the purpose of the calculation by computer of teachers' salaries.

432.

asked the Minister for Labour the numbers of citizens about whom information is retained on computer in his Department; and if information so recorded is used by his Department for any other purpose.

The only information about individual persons, other than Department staff, which is retained on computer in my Department relates to job seekers seeking assistance from the National Manpower Service in obtaining employment, training or work experience. At present, particulars of 23,000 such persons are on computer in a number of offices of the service in the east region. It is expected that details of all job seekers who approach the NMS will be retained on computer in due course when computerisation is completed in other offices of the service.

The information recorded is used only for the purpose of assisting job seekers to obtain employment, training or work experience.
