Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Radio Frequencies.

93.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will make a statement regarding his recent allocation of radio frequencies to RTE.

Since the beginning of this year three sound broadcasting frequencies (90.0 MHz, 92.2 MHz and 94.4 MHz for use at Mullaghanish) have been assigned to RTE. The assignments result from the recent successful conclusion by my Department, with the assistance of RTE, of international negotiations for additional VHF broadcasting frequencies for this country. I will be licensing RTE to proceed with the provision of other transmitters for a third national VHF sound broadcasting network over the next two years or so. I am also giving consideration to applications by RTE for various other frequencies for broadcasting and ancillary purposes.
