Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - Health Board and Voluntary Hospital Finances.

494.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that each health board and voluntary hospital will manage within their financial allocation until the end of 1984; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that some health boards and voluntary hospitals are experiencing difficulties in containing non-capital expenditure in 1984 within the approved allocation levels. The boards and the hospitals have been informed, however, that it will not be possible to provide Exchequer funds to cover excess expenditure and that any overruns on approved allocation levels in the current year will have serious financial implications for 1985.

It is therefore essential that each health agency should keep their financial position under constant review and should intensify, if necessary, measures to secure the necessary reductions in expenditure.
