Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dairy Investment Aid.

688.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fact that aids for dairy investment for development farmers in the West of Ireland qualify for 50 per cent recoupment and the Commission proposes to restrict aid to 25 per cent for the whole country, he considers that application of this principle to the less favoured west of Ireland is discriminatory and a retrogressive step and given the importance of milk production in the region if the Government agree that, if adopted, it will undermine the Community's policy of ensuring that farming should continue in the less favoured areas.

The question of recoupment from FEOGA is currently being discussed in Brussels and at this stage it is not possible to indicate what the outcome will be.
