Since 1 January 1984 projects involving construction works are not eligible for assistance under my Department's Youth Employment Scheme. The project proposed by Drogheda Corporation for the Glen, Yellowbatter, Drogheda, County Louth, involves major construction works and accordingly it does not qualify for funding under the scheme.
The Dáil will be aware of the proposal in Building on Reality 1985-1987 for the establishment of a new social employment scheme. The conditions of the scheme are now being drawn up and, in this connection, Drogheda Corporation might like to contact the National Manpower Service of the Department of Labour.
