Vol. 353 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Deductions.

587.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the high amount of tax currently being deducted from a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, on the basis of the latest information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer is likely to be exempt from income tax for the current year, 1984-85. An amended certificate of tax-free allowances giving effect to the exemption was issued in this case on 2 November 1984, and any tax deducted since 6 April last will be refunded to the taxpayer by the payer of the retirement pension when the certificate is put into operation.
