asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the amount of money known to have been lost to his Department through acts of fraud emanating from (a) within and (b) outside his Department in the years 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983; and the general areas in his Department in which such acts of fraud occurred.

No money is known to have been lost to my Department through acts of fraud during the period in question.

The general areas in which such losses occurred related to misuse of official cash and irregular negotiation of savings certificates and other payable instruments by staff of the former Department of Posts and Telegraphs and to fraudulent savings bank withdrawals and irregular negotiation of money orders and postal orders by members of the public.
