Written Answers. - Hospital Beds Capital Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated average capital expenditure for providing a hospital bed in a newly constructed hospital on each of the following: (a) voluntary public general hospitals; (b) regional and county hospitals; and (c) geriatric long stay homes.

The estimated current average total cost for providing a hospital bed in newly constructed hospitals in the categories listed are (a) £112,000, (b) £82,000 and (c) £27,000. The costs per bed are to a large extent determined by the amount/cost of treatment and diagnostic facilities provided in each project.
