Vol. 354 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Lottery.

639.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the proposed national lottery which was announced in the recent national plan; the system on which the lottery is expected to be organised; and when it is intended to have it introduced.

An Irish-based management consultancy firm are at present carrying out an in-depth study for the Government on the approach to be adopted in the establishment of the new national lottery which was announced in the plan. It is expected that the consultancy study will be completed in about a month's time. An interdepartmental steering committee are overseeing the study on behalf of the Government. Following receipt of the consultants' report the Government will then consider how the lottery should best be organised and what form and structure would be most appropriate. It is not possible to say at this stage when precisely the lottery will commence.
