Vol. 354 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Alcoholism Centre.

624.

asked the Minister for Health if he will ask the Eastern Health Board to renew the block grant, which has not been given for three years, to the Hanly Centre, Dún Laoghaire, in view of the substantial volume of work for alcoholism being undertaken by the centre.

The Eastern Health Board have responsibility for the co-ordination of health services in this area. In assessing the needs of the Hanly Centre the board take into account the demands of various agencies, including their own services. Given the need to contain expenditure on health services the board must place many calls for financial assistance in a priority order. This centre has not gained a position in that order which would enable the board to assist them. Their case for assistance and their role in the field of alcoholism will continue to be kept under review.
