Vol. 354 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Transport Scheme.

655.

asked the Minister for Education the reason there has been a change in the school bus service from Poulmucka to Cahir in which a CIE bus has taken over school transport service in that area which was formerly operated by a mini-bus and as a result the pupils are now collected much earlier in the morning and returned much later in the evening; and if her Department will revert to the original arrangements which was much better.

Because of an increase in the number of eligible pupils offering for school transport, it was necessary to reorganise the services operating into the Cahir post-primary centre.

As a result of this reorganisation of services, the pupils from the area in question have later pick-up times in the morning and later set-down times in the afternoon. While they now have longer waiting times overall, the standard of service available to them is considered to be satisfactory in the context of the general operation of the post-primary school transport scheme. Accordingly, it is not considered that any changes in the present arrangements would be warranted.
