The Government is committed to the establishment of an award scheme for young people to be called the President's Award. The award, which will come under the patronage of the President, will reflect recognition of the initiative, achievement and community service of Ireland's youth.
A Committee for the Promotion and Establishment of the President's Award, representative of business interests, youth interests, educationalists and other relevant groups, will be established shortly.
A prominent Irish business person has already agreed to act as Chairman of the Committee for the Promotion and Establishment of the President's Award. It is intended to launch the award scheme during International Youth Year, 1985.
