Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Disability Compensation.

251.

asked the Minister for Health if he will arrange for compensation to be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway who suffered brain damage following whooping cough vaccination in Galway.

The expert medical group on whooping cough vaccination conducted an examination of the person, examined the relevant medical records and made inquiries from doctors who had a knowledge of the case. On the basis of its examination of the case, the expert medical group concluded that the person's disability was not caused by whooping cough vaccination.

In view of this, I regret that the person would not qualify for the financial arrangements decided by the Government in respect of those persons whose disabilities were considered by the group, on the balance of probabilities, to be associated with the vaccination.
