Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Lime Subsidy.

302.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the total amount of unclaimed moneys available from the EC authorities for a lime subsidy in 1984, if he will make special application for these moneys and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The EC lime subsidy scheme was terminated on 30 April 1984. There were no EC funds assigned for the operation of a scheme after that date.

303.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the action he proposes to take to encourage a higher level of usage of lime and fertiliser.

The operation of the lime subsidy scheme during the three year period up to April 1984 brought lime sales to the highest level for many years. In addition the levels of application of nitrogen, phosphorous and potash increased steadily over the last three years. ACOT, of course will continue to advise farmers on appropriate lime and fertiliser application programmes.
