Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin-Wicklow National Park.

374.

Mr. N. Andrews

andMr. D. Andrews asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to designate part of the Dublin-Wicklow mountain range as a National Park; and if he will make a statement on his Department's plans for this area.

There are no statutory powers to designate any areas as national parks; the policy is for the Commissioners of Public Works to acquire the property necessary for such parks. Three national parks have been established in this way and the Commissioners are in the process of acquiring property for a fourth park in the Burren, County Clare. The Dublin-Wicklow mountain range has been proposed as a possible location for a further national park but the Commissioners have no immediate plans to acquire lands in the area.
