asked the Minister for Health in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses of all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

The costs for 1984 sought by the Deputy, exclusive of official transport costs of the Minister for Health and the transport costs refunded to the Minister of State under existing approved arrangements are as follows:

Home Travel

Foreign Travel

£

£

Minister for Health

1,411

Apart from these costs Deputy Fergus O'Brien, Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, represented the Minister for Health on a visit to the USA in 1984. The cost involved was £4,414.

The average cost of official transport for members of the Government in 1984 was £78,000. The refund of transport costs for the Minister of State at the Department of Health was £38,490 in 1984.

The figures do not include the cost of air transport provided for the Minister for Health and the Minister of State at the Department of Health by the Air Corps and met from the Defence Vote —these costs are not available on an individual basis.
