Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - St. Michael's House Organisation.

388.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the difficulties being experienced by the staff of St. Michael's House in the matter of providing training facilities for their many students and that unless additional staff is provided, there will be many deserving students and applicants for whom there will be no place in the coming year; and if he will make a statement on this very urgent matter.

On 30 October 1984 I met with a delegation from St. Michael's House when we discussed the difficulties being experienced by that organisation. Following this meeting I increased the 1985 allocation to St. Michael's House by £150,000 to meet some pay costs which had, heretofore, been met from private resources.

There is also at present an adult day care unit under construction at Belcamp, County Dublin. This unit will provide 70 places for mentally handicapped persons. It will be ready for occupation in March and the staffing requirements are being considered by my Department at present.
