Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cardiac Surgery.

400.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the long waiting period of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 who is awaiting an operation for angina; and if he can take any action to improve this situation.

I am aware of the length of the waiting period for coronary by-pass operations. However, the waiting list is reviewed weekly and urgent cases are given priority. If the person referred to in the Deputy's question feels that the case should be reviewed, the person's general practitioner should be consulted who would be in a position to refer the person to the consultant concerned if this is considered necessary. I should also point out that in the last year I have made considerable additional funds available to enable the cardiac surgery service to be further developed in the Mater Hospital.
