asked the Minister for Labour in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses of all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

Travel costs chargeable to the Labour Vote for travel undertaken by me and the Minister of State at my Department during the year ending 31 December 1984 are as follows: (a) Travel undertaken by the Minister for Labour, £14,131.56; (b) Travel undertaken by the Minister of State at the Department of Labour, £6,558.69. These figures are exclusive of official transport costs and the provision for refunding transport costs now applicable to Ministers of State other than the Government Chief Whip.
