Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant and Mortgage Subsidy Payments.

289.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will pay a new house grant and mortgage subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

A new house grant and the first instalment of the mortgage subsidy were paid to the person named on 10 November 1983 and 18 December 1984 respectively. The second instalment of the mortgage subsidy is not due until September 1985.

290.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a loan, new house grant and mortgage subsidy for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who in 1972 entered into a contract to buy his own house and received a tax rebate of £240, but because he lost his job in 1973 he had to give up the house, and he finds now that even though living in a local authority house, he is not entitled to a new house grant or subsidy.

There is no record of the receipt in my Department of an application for a new house grant and mortgage subsidy from the person named. However, from the information supplied by the Deputy, it appears that the person in question would not be entitled to a £1,000 new house grant because he is not a first time purchaser. As he is now a local authority tenant he may be eligible for the £3,000 mortgage subsidy as a special category applicant. The necessary application forms and details have accordingly been sent to him. The question of sanctioning a loan is a matter for the local housing authority.

291.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a reconstruction grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named. There is, however, an application from a person with the same name and a slightly different address. In that case grants totalling £1,200 were paid on 12 December 1984.

292.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a final inspection will be carried out and a new house grant paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There is no record of the receipt in my Department of an application for a new house grant from the person named. An application was received from a person of the same surname and address in 1980 and the position in that case has not altered since my predecessor replied to a similar question on 5 July 1983. The problem in this case is that the applicant has not so far confirmed that his house is completed and occupied. Neither has he responded to a request by the Department in relation to the execution of his mortgage deed.
