asked the Minister for the Environment the grants, if any, which are available for senior citizens living alone to improve security on their homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Home Security for the Elderly.
): There are no grants as such available for this type of work. However, there is provision in my Department's Vote for 1985 for expenditure of £1 million on special housing aid for elderly persons living alone. In the context of the national plan there will be similar provisions in respect of 1986 and 1987. The particular scheme is administered by a task force set up under the aegis of my Department and the operation of the scheme is a matter for the various health boards. Arising from the recent attacks on elderly persons, the task force have agreed to treat the fitting of locks, etc., to make dwellings more secure as work qualifying for assistance under the scheme.
286.
asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give full details of financial allocations to local authorities under each heading for the year 1985 and the corresponding amount paid in each case in 1984, 1983 and 1982.
287.
asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of financial allocations to each local authority in 1985.
288.
asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the percentage increases or decreases in 1985 financial allocations to local authorities under each heading in comparison with 1984 allocations.
): I propose to take Questions Nos. 286, 287 and 288 together.
Allocations for 1985 have not yet been made with the exception of the grant in relief of domestic rates, the grant in lieu of rates on agricultural land, road grants and the local improvements scheme. In the case of the grant in relief of domestic rates, allocations to local authorities have been increased by about 0.71 per cent in each case while the increase in the case of the grant in lieu of rates on agricultural land is about 0.87 per cent. As in previous years minor adjustments may have to be made to take account of commitments from previous years. Information on the 1982, 1983 and 1984 allocations follows together with details of the 1985 allocations for the grant in relief of domestic rates, the grant in lieu of rates on agricultural land, road grants and the local improvements scheme.
