Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bicycle Lanes.

310.

Mr. N. Andrews

andMr. D. Andrews asked the Minister for the Environment if he has approved bicycle lanes anywhere in the Dublin area and, if so, if he has plans to extend such bicycle lanes elsewhere.

Dublin Corporation recently submitted proposals to my Department for the introduction of "cycle lanes" on the Stillorgan Road dual carriageway between Donnybrook and Belfield. These proposals are being considered by the Department in conjunction with the Garda Commissioner. Such lanes, which are distinct from separate "cycle tracks", would involve the "marking-off" of part of the carriageway for use by cyclists. Pending completion of the examination of the proposals, it would be premature to speculate on the extension of the system. Cyclists are, of course, permitted to use, with flow, bus lanes.
