Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dundalk Pollution Levels.

330.

asked the Minister for the Environment if any measures are taken to determine the levels of air pollution in Dundalk, County Louth; if he is satisfied with existing levels of pollution; how these levels compare with other urban centres generally; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Levels of smoke and sulphur dioxide were monitored in Dundalk by the North-Eastern Health Board on a continuous basis from October 1976 until April 1980. During that period the limit values prescribed in the relevant EC Directive for Smoke and Sulphur Dioxide were not breached. Efforts are being made by my Department to encourage the resumption of monitoring in the area on a regular basis as soon as possible.
