asked the Minister for Defence in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses for all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

Exclusive of the cost of transport in State cars and service aircraft, the cost in relation to myself and the Minister of State at the Department of Defence was £4,421 made up as follows:

The average cost of a State car in 1984 was £78,000. Cost particulars in relation to travel in service aircraft are not available on an individual basis.

asked the Minister for the Public Service in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses for all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

Exclusive of official transport costs, the total cost involved under the above headings, in respect of myself, in the year ending 31 December 1984 was approximately £10,600.

The cost of official car transport is carried on the Department of Justice Vote.

The figures do not include the cost of air transport provided by the Air Corps and met from the Defence Vote — these costs are not available on an individual basis.

There is no Minister of State assigned to my Department.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses for all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

Exclusive of official transport costs and the provision for refunding transport costs now applied to Ministers of State, the costs involved under the above headings in 1984 were:

The average cost of official transport per member of the Government in 1984 was £78,000.

The refunding of transport costs to the Minister of State together with the cost of wages and subsistence for drivers amounted to £41,331. The figures do not include the costs of air transport provided for the Minister and Minister of State by the Air Corps and met from the Defence Vote—these costs are not available on an individual basis.
