Written Answers. - Ministerial Travelling Expenses.

asked the Minister for Communications in respect of himself and each Minister of State assigned to his Department, the total cost including air and surface transport, accommodation, subsistence, drivers' pay and car expenses of all travel at home and abroad in the year ending 31 December 1984.

The cost of home and foreign travel borne on the Vote for the Department of Communications in the year ended 31 December 1984 was £21,388.74.

This does not include refunds from the EC in respect of travel expenses for the full year including the Irish Presidency. Nor does it include the cost of air transport provided by the Air Corps which is met from the Department of Defence Vote details of which are not available on an individual basis.

Expenditure incurred in respect of drivers' pay and car expenses for (a) the Minister for Communications are borne on the Vote for the Garda Síochána; (b) the Minister of State are borne on the Vote of the Department of the Taoiseach to which he is also accredited.
