Vol. 355 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

246.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when payment of disability will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Where a person has less than 156 contributions paid since entry into insurable employment, entitlement to disability benefit is limited to 52 weeks.

According to the records of the Department the person concerned has only 78 contributions paid on his behalf since entry into insurance. He claimed disability benefit from 26 May 1983 and was paid to 26 May 1984 after which date his 52 week entitlement became exhausted.

In order to requalify for disability benefit it will be necessary for him to have at least a further 13 weeks of insurable employment for which the appropriate contributions are paid.

247.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when arrears of unemployment benefit and pay-related benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and the weekly rate of payment.

The person concerned is a postal applicant for unemployment benefit and a paying order for £490.29 in respect of arrears of flat-rate unemployment benefit and pay-related benefit issued to him on 11 January 1985 for encashment at his local post office. He was however underpaid £41.63 due to an error in calculation and a further paying order for this amount is being issued to him this week.

Combined payments of £40.81 representing flat-rate unemployment benefit £35.90 and pay-related benefit £4.91 will continue to be made to him as weekly payments become due.
