The sketch plans for the proposed new national school at Station Road, Portarlington, County Laois, prepared by an architect engaged by the manager of the school, were approved by the Office of Public Works in September 1984. The Department of Education sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the project on 26 November 1984 and the manager's architect was then authorised to prepare the working drawings. The Office of Public Works await the submission of working drawings by the manager's architect.
