Vol. 355 No. 6

Written Answers. - European Social Fund Education Grants.

426.

asked the Minister for Education if it is open to students in privately run secretarial colleges to apply for ESF grants; if so the procedures which should be adopted for any individual; and if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 is eligible to apply for an ESF grant to aid the cost of her studies.

It is presumed that the Deputy is referring to my Department's vocational preparation and training programme which was approved for assistance from the European Social Fund in 1984. The programme is operating in vocational, community and comprehensive schools and in certain secondary schools. It is not proposed to extend its operation into privately run secretarial colleges. Accordingly in so far as the person named by the Deputy is not attending an approved programme within the terms of the scheme it is not possible to provide a training grant for her.
