Vol. 355 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Road Grants.

3.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money paid in block grant to Cork Corporation for roads in Cork city for the years 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984.

The block grant provisions, which were paid in full, in the years in question were: 1981, £435,000; 1982, £435,000; 1983, £470,000; 1984, £470,000.

I can now inform the Deputy that the block grant provision for 1985 is £517,000.

In relation to block grants generally, is the Minister satisfied that the moneys allocated to local authorities are being spent efficiently? Have his Department carried out any study in relation to the cost effectiveness of the projects undertaken by local authorities?

The question refers only to a block grant to Cork Corporation.

I am aware that Cork Corporation have been very efficient in the use of block grants. However, to give a global answer to the supplementary question, I would ask the Deputy to put down a further question so that I may obtain the necessary information.
